When it comes to crafting an effective social media marketing strategy for your Barbershop, they’re many things to consider. What platforms you should be on, frequency of posts and what type of content you should be sharing. In this article we will go over some key components you should consider when creating your strategy, such as what platforms you should be on.

Although there are many social media platforms you can utilize to build your business, you don’t necessarily have to be on all of them, at least not right away (unless you have the resources and team to do so). For example, Tumblr or Reddit might not be the first place where you want to start investing your advertising dollars for your barbershop.

We’ve been managing social media campaigns for barbershops for the past couple years and over time we’ve seen what social media channels brought out the best results for new clientele. We’ve narrowed it down to 3 platforms:

Google

Facebook

Instagram

You want to be on Google for a number of reasons. If someone is looking for a new barbershop, they might google, “Barber Shops near me”. This is where you want to show up, and in most cases people will check out whoever is listed first out of convenience. There are a number of ways you can make the top 3 on Google. You can either pay Google and run Google AdWords to rank your website, or you can rank organically for certain keywords through content marketing, soliciting positive reviews, etc. (Tip: another way to help make top 3 on Google is by listing your business on Google My Business)

The next 2 platforms you want to be on are Facebook & Instagram. Now you want to be on Facebook, not only because it has over 1 billion active users, but because you can run targeted ads to those users who live in your city or town. When you run an ad out of Facebook’s Ad manager you can geofence your location, and target anyone who travels within your city with your ads!

Now, when it comes to showcasing your work Instagram takes the cake! Yes you can add pictures to your Facebook Page and Google+ Page, but for every barber or hairstylist, Instagram is your resume. It’s where you can constantly share your work without ever feeling like you’re sharing too much.

Yes they’re other platforms you can be on, such as Snapchat and Twitter. But, they don’t have the type of targeting capabilities like Google, Facebook & Instagram. And if we’re talking about what platforms gets people through the doors the quickest, in our experience it’s Facebook, Instagram & Google!

It’s beneficial to build your brand on all platforms, but if you’re just starting out, start out where your core audience is, then once you build a solid following you can start to branch out to other platforms.

Now that you understand what platforms your Barbershop needs to be on, you should be able to reach your target audience more effectively.
